Brand Guidelines
The Brand in One Page
Woobie Gear takes the one piece of issued equipment every soldier genuinely loved — the “woobie” poncho liner — and builds it into gear for civilian life. Military-heritage comfort, made by outdoorsmen, for outdoorsmen.
The Origin Story
“Woobie” is the affectionate name for the U.S. military poncho liner — the lightweight, quilted blanket troops carry everywhere and famously never want to give back.
Founded in 2020, Woobie Gear transformed that material story into consumer gear: hoodies, jackets, blankets, and the self-aware classic, Silkies “Ranger Panties.” The heritage isn’t a costume — it’s the proof behind every product. The brand bridges veteran culture and the general outdoors: hiking, camping, tailgates, backyard fires, and everything in between.
The One-Line Brand
“The woobie the military never wanted to give back.” Every piece of communication should trace back to this sentence: genuine heritage, genuine comfort, genuine gear.
How Woobie Talks
Five Principles
Plainspoken Confidence
Short declaratives. “Period.” No luxury-brand whisper, no influencer gush. Say the thing, then stop.
Field-Tested, Not Curated
Claims are material facts: rip-stop nylon, DWR, dries fast, packs small. Facts persuade; adjectives don’t.
Dry Humor Allowed
“Operators prefer short shorts.” Never jokey to the point of undermining quality.
Heritage as Proof
Reference the poncho-liner lineage when it earns trust. Skip the cosplay — no “tango down” energy.
Warmth Under the Armor
Comfort, nostalgia, and “snug as a bug” — real customer language — are fully on-brand.
Sentence Structure & Cadence
Two short declaratives, paired as a promise. Lead with the fact; close with the dual-life payoff. One idea per sentence. Humor arrives dry and brief, never at the cost of the material claim.
Copy: Do / Don’t
| Example | Why | |
|---|---|---|
| Do | “Built for the field. Worn everywhere else.” | Plainspoken, dual-life promise, zero hype. |
| Do | “The same material the military never wanted to give back.” | Heritage as proof — the origin story doing sales work. |
| Do | Cite verified reviews with first names: “— Mike R.” | Real customers are the brand’s best copywriters. |
| Don’t | “Your cart expires in 10 minutes!!” | Fake urgency and invented scarcity break trust. |
| Don’t | “Unleash your inner warrior.” | Costume language. Heritage is proof, never cosplay. |
| Don’t | Stock lifestyle clichés or template-scented copy. | The customer deletes anything that smells like a template. |

The Camo Bar
A 6px multi-cell separator built from six camo tones. It sits below email heroes, separates major page sections, and anchors document footers. Use it whole; never recolor or thin it.
Typography
Two typefaces, clear jobs. Oswald handles display, eyebrows, and buttons — uppercase and letter-spaced. Roboto handles body copy.
Worn everywhere else.
Rip-stop nylon shell. 100% poly active insulation. DWR coating that shrugs off drizzle. It dries fast, packs small, and takes abuse — the same material story as the poncho liner that started it all.

|---|---|---|---|
| Hero display | Oswald 600–700 | 42–44px · .03–.05em | UPPERCASE |

Photography
Woobie imagery looks like a candid snapshot from a real weekend — never a production. If a photo could run in a glossy catalog, it’s wrong. If it could be a buddy’s camera roll, it’s right.
The Recipe
| Element | Rule |
|---|---|
| Cast | Regular-guy men, solo or duo. Sweaty and muddy is fine. Genuine laughs or focused effort — never posing. |
| Scenes | Gravel backyard gyms, trailhead tailgates, ruck pull-offs, field and camp. Active first, cozy second. |
| Light | Overcast, honest daylight. Bright and neutral. Blue hour is acceptable for fire scenes. No golden-hour glow. |
| Palette | Muted tan, green, and grey — color-matched to the camo bar. |
| Focus | Sharp across the frame. True-to-life color with no visible filter or heavy grade. |
| Product | Worn or in use, never draped as a prop. Pattern fidelity and construction details must read true. |
Always
- Candid, documentary snapshot feel
- Product worn and working
- Honest overcast light, true color
- Real textures: gravel, tailgates, firewood
- Packshots on clean white
Never
- Cinematic gloss or golden-hour glow
- Suburban-catalog / glamping energy
- Text or logos baked into the photo
- Firearms in email imagery
- The same image used twice
Lifestyle — Reference Standard

Packshots — Clean White
Product-only shots sit on pure white: soft, even shadow, natural rumple, pattern rendered true. These carry product grids, cart rows, and pattern rails.

Detail Macros — Material Proof
Tight fabric and hardware macros support material claims: DWR beading, zipper hardware, and quilting.

Iconography
A single line-style icon family carries functional moments — trust promises and feature callouts. Icons support copy; they never replace it. One family, one weight, one color.
Always
- One line-style family, single weight
- Sage or ink only
- Paired with a short uppercase label
- Even padding in every tile
Never
- Mix icon families or weights
- Use filled, multicolor, or 3D icons
- Use gold or red icons — those colors are reserved
- Let icons stand alone without a label

The dossier block is the “intel” voice — flat charcoal, outlined eyebrow, big Oswald headline. Use it for story interrupts and service messages that should feel like a briefing.
“The woobie unites. Snug as a bug — my kid steals it every camping trip.”
Sage left bar, gold stars, uppercase attribution. Quotes come from verified reviews only.
Verified Language
Every claim in Woobie copy must trace to a verified fact. If it isn’t here, it doesn’t get said.

Verified Policies
Hard Rules
- Never claim “rip-stop” for Silkies. Silkies are 100% four-way-stretch polyester — not rip-stop nylon. This is always wrong.
- Never fake urgency or invent scarcity. No countdown pressure, “cart expires,” or phantom stock warnings. Honest urgency only.
- Discounts live at sanctioned touchpoints only. The 10% code appears only at designated last-call moments — never as a default offer.
- Reviews are quoted, not written. Testimonials come from verified reviews, attributed with first name and last initial. Never paraphrase into words a customer didn’t use.
- Internal sales figures stay internal. Product emphasis can follow what sells; order counts and revenue never appear in customer-facing copy.
